Hardik Pandya will not play the India vs New Zealand match, due to ankle injury.

Lush green ground with amazing views in the background, a sunny afternoon and the 5th match of India vs New Zealand, both the topper in the tally of ICC World Cup 2023, having won their previous four matches and scored 8 points.  

India has two changes in its team. Surya Kumar Yadav will replace the injured Hardik Pandya and Mohammad Sami will replace Shardul Thakur. New Zealand will play with the same XI played in the previous match.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first, asking New Zealand to bat first. 

For New Zealand, Conway was first to go to the pavilion on DUCK in the 4th over of the inning and the score was 9. Shreyas Iyer took the catch and the bowler was Mohammad Siraj.

In the 9th over of the inning, Mohammad Sami had bowled Will Young when he was on 17 and New Zealand was 19/2. In the next over by Sami, a simple catch by Rachin Ravindra was dropped at backward point by the safest hand in the Indian outfield, Ravindra Jadeja. Rachin Ravindra was playing on 12 and New Zealand was 40/2.

After 18 overs, New Zealand was 74/2.

100 for New Zealand came after 21 overs and Rachin Ravindra has completed his half century on 56 balls.

After 3 lost easy chances, ultimately India got a breakthrough and Bowler was Mohammad Sami, who sent Rachin Ravindra to pavilion, when he went for a big hit but found Shubhman Gill on the long on, who took the catch and 75 runs inning of Rachin came to an end. He has added 159 runs for the 3rd wicket with Daryl Mitchell. Rachin in his 75 runs inning faced 87 balls. NZ 178/3 after 33.3 overs.

Daryl Mitchell has completed his century on just 100 balls and New Zealand is on 221/4 after 40.4 overs. After that, Glenn Phillips was out for 23, caught by the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on Kuldeep Yadav’s ball, when New Zealand was on 243. 

 

But after this excellent foundation, New Zealand could not capitalise the innings and the rest of all the wickets were gone for 30 more runs. Daryl Mitchell was the most successful batsman, who scored 130 magnificent runs off 127 balls, which included 9 boundaries and 5 beautiful SIXES.

New Zealand innings was closed at 273/10 off 50 overs. The most successful bowler for India was Mohammad Sami, who took 5 wickets for 54 runs. Kuldeep Yadav has taken 2 and Bumrah and Siraj had shared one each.

India is chasing 274. If India wins this match, this will be their 1st victory in the World Cup against New Zealand since 2003.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill started well and added 71 runs for the first wicket, when Rohit Sharma was played on an outgoing delivery by Lockie Ferguson in the 12th over. Shubhman Gill was next to go, when he was trying to pull a ball from Lockie Ferguson and caught by Daryl Mitchell. India was 76/2 after 13.2 overs.

Virat Kohali and Shreyas Iyer were trying to build a partnership and both were looking good, but soon after a 50 run partnership, Shreyas Iyer was caught by Conway off the bowling of Trent Boult. India lost their 3rd wicket on 128 in 21.3 overs.

Now, Surya Kumar Yadav came to the crease, but was run out on 2 when he ran for a run and Kohali was not looking at him. There was confusion and it was too late for SKY to return to his crease. India 191/5 after 33.5 overs.

83 more are required to win. Jadeja came to join hands with Virat Kohali. Kohali and Jadeja were both planning for victory and the 49th ODI century of Virat Kohali, but at 95 runs, Virat Kohali was trying to hit the ball of Matt Hennery over the mid-wicket fence for SIX, but could not clear and was caught by Glenn Phillips and India just short of 5 runs, lost Kohali’s wicket.

Ravindra Jadeja scored the winning boundary on the last ball of the 48th over off of Matt Hennery.

Finally, after 20 years, India defeated New Zealand in the World Cup by 4 wickets and secured top place in the table with +1.3 NRR.
