Afghanistan

Afghanistan has appeared for the third time in the ICC World Cup continuously since 2015, 2019 and this current World Cup in 2023.

They managed a single win over Scotland in 2015, out of six matches they played in the 2015 World Cup.

In the World Cup 2019, they lost all nine matches played. The overall winning percentage of Afghanistan is 6.66% in the World Cup. (1/16)

In recent years, Afghan players have been trying hard and even showing their ability on the ground. Players like Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Naveen ul Haq, and Azmatullah Omarzai may impress with their performances in this World Cup.

The Afghanistan team is working hard under the guidance of English former player and Coach Jonathan Trott. Jonathan Trott says that “this team might just be on the verge of a breakthrough; we need just one tight win.”

Afghanistan squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Alikhil, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Abdul Rahman, Naveen ul Haq.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh has played 40 matches in ICC World Cup, so far with 35% winning. They have won 14 matches, lost 25 and had no result in 1.

They had reached at Super-8 stage in 2007.  In 2015, they lost their quarterfinal match.

2019 World Cup was also very disappointing for them and they finished at 8th place.

Bangladesh-skipper

The skipper of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan, is the highest scoring player of the team.

Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, and Nazmul Hossain Shanto will provide strength in batting with the skipper, Shakib Al Hasan. In the bowling department, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmad, and Shoriful Islam will get the support of spin duo Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shak Mahedi Hasan.

The Bangladesh team loves to play on this subcontinent. The playing conditions will be favourable for them. The experience of Mustafizur Rahman in Indian conditions and his ability to be a deceptive bowler make him lethal to face. His ability to pick up crucial wickets, especially in the latter stages of an innings, adds depth to the bowling attack.

Bangladesh squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Kumer Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto (vc), Tawhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

When I am writing this post, Match No.2 between Pakistan and Netherlands is in progress.  Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl. Pakistan team could not play full quota of 50 overs and were all out on a total of 286 runs in 49 overs.

Bas De Leede was successful bowler (4/62).  For Pakistan, Rizwan & Saud Shakeel scored 68runs each.
