Wankhede Stadium Mumbai (Earlier known as Bombay) will witness a tough fight between India and Sri Lanka.

India will play with same eleven on the other hand Sri Lanka will come with one change. Bowling all-rounder  Dushan Hemantha will replace another all-rounder Dhananjaya De Silva.

Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to field. Indian opening was a bit disappointing, when Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was out on the 2nd ball of the inning on 4 runs and India were 4/1 in 0.2 overs. Dilshan Madhushanka was the baller who has bowled out the skipper.

After initial loss, Shubhman Gill and Virat Kohali were in brilliant form and both have entertained Mumbai spectators very well. First 50 came with the bat of Virat Kohali, who has completed his 50 on 50 balls. This was 13th half century in World Cup by Virat Kohali. Soon after that 100 runs partnership completed for 2nd wicket in 16.3 over.

In the 19th over of the innings, Shubhman Gill has also completed his fifty on 55 balls. This was 12th ODI fifty of Shubhman Gill in this year.

India vs Sri Lanka

150 marks came in 24.5 overs for India, when Shubhman Gill was batting on 65 (74 balls) and Virat Kohali on 73 (74 balls). Both the batsmen were looking very confident and displaying their batting skills all around. It was feast to the eyes of more than 3 crore spectators on the field and off the field.

On the last ball of 30th over Madhushanka stuck again when Shubhman Gill was trying to play the ball through the slip but edged and Kushal Mendis did no mistake in taking the catch. Shubhman Gill was deprived from his first World Cup century and out on 92 (92 balls, 11 boundaries & 2 Sixes). India 193/2 after 30 overs.

In 32nd over and the very next over of Madhushanka, Virat Kohali couldn’t time the ball and the ball went to short cover, where Nissanka was waiting for the any expected catch and brilliant inning of Virat Kohali came to an end on 88 (94 balls, 11 boundaries). India 196/3 after 31.3 overs.

India’s 200 runs came after 32.5 overs. K L Rahul batting on 1 and Shreyas Iyer on 4.

50 runs partnership between both K L Rahul & Shreyas Iyer came on 36 balls; India 246/3 after 37.3 overs.

K L Rahul was batting very sensibly but when he was batting on 21 runs, he has tried to drive a ball of Dushmantha Chameera and mistimed the stroke and ball went to Hemantha, who easily took the catch and Rahul was out on 21 (19 balls, 2 boundaries). India lost 4th wicket on 256 after 39.2 overs.

Dilshan Madhusanka took his 4th wicket in his 8th over and the 42nd over of innings when the ball kissed the gloves of Surya Kumar Yadav and rested in the gloves of Kusal Mendis. SKY was on 12 (9 balls, 2 boundaries) and India lost their 5th wicket on 276 after 41.3 overs.

Shreyas Iyer has completed his fifty, which came at a very right time. His fifty came on 36 balls. India 286/5 after 42.3 overs.

300 for India came after 44.5 overs. Soon after 50 partnership came on 35 balls between Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer. India 326/5 after 47.1 overs.

Madhushanka has captured his 5th wicket when Shreyas Iyer lofted a slower delivery over cover but could not clear the field and Theekshana took the easy catch. Shreyas Iyer has made brilliant and very useful 82 runs (56 balls, 3 boundaries and 6 Sixes) and India 333/6 after 47.3.

India’s 351 runs came after 48.4 overs.

India has finished the inning at 357/8. Target for Sri Lanka is 358.

What a start any Indian can think of???

1st ball of the inning by Jaspreet Bumrah to Pathum Nishanka and he is out LBW. Sri Lanka 0/1 on the 1st ball. First 2 runs came for Sri Lanka with 2 wides in 1st over and after 1st over Sri Lanka 2/1.

2nd over, 1st ball of Mohammad Siraj, same thing happened, Dimuth Karunaratne out LBW. Sri Lanka 2/2 after 1.1 over.

3rd ball of the same over of Miya Magic and batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama, a perfect out swinger. Shreyas Iyer took the catch in the slips and Sri Lanka 2/3 after 1.5 overs.

Siraj in his 2nd over, the 1st ball of the over to Sri Lankan Batsman Kusal Mendis and he couldn’t see even the ball, ball quickly removed off and middle stumps. Sri Lanka ¾ after 3.1 over. A dream bowling figure for Siraj 1.1-1.0-3.

Mohd Shami also followed the pattern created by Siraj and Bumrah and took 1st wicket on his 1st over’s 2nd ball and 2nd wicket on the 3rd ball. He is on hat trick. Sri Lanka 14/6 after 9.4 overs.

Shami strikes again on 3rd ball of his 2nd over, when Dushmantha Chameera got caught behind by K L Rahul. K L Rahul was too confident and took DRS and he was right. Umpire changed his not-out decision to OUT. Sri Lanka 22/7 after 11.3 overs and Shami’s dream bowling figure 2-1-1-3.

Mathews was next victim of Shami; Bowled out on 12; Sri Lanka 29/8 after 13.1 and Mohammad Shami 2.1-1-1-4

Once again Shami took 5 wicket for only 18 runs (4th times fiver for him); After 19 overs Sri Lanka 51/9. 

Formality of last wicket completed by Ravindra Jadeja. 

Sri Lanka all out on 55 in 19.4 overs

India won by huge margin of 302 runs.
