South Africa entered World Cup Cricket in the year 1992. Before that they were in an International Sports Boycott.
There is another interesting fact that Kepler Wessels was the first player to play for two different teams in the World Cup. He played for Australia in the 1983 World Cup and for South Africa in the World Cup 1991-92. The only other player who played for two teams was Anderson Cummins, who played for West Indies and Canada.
Before this World Cup, SA had played 64 matches and they won 38, lost 23, tried 2 and there was no result in 1 match. Overall winning percentage of 59.4%
South Africa never reached the ICC World Cup final. Their dream to enter the final vanished in 1992, when rain stopped the play at a stage when SA needed 22 runs off 13 balls.
The SA cricket team has witnessed many ups and downs. Now they are ready to start afresh in this ICC World Cup 2023. They are going to take on Sri Lanka tomorrow on 07th October 2023 at Delhi.
SA will mostly depend upon Kagiso Rabada, who has been the most consistent player of the team. In the absence of Anrich Nortje due to injury, the role of Rabada will be more crucial and the team will expect an early breakthrough from him.

Sri Lanka has lifted this prestigious trophy once in 1996 under the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga. They were runner up for two consecutive times in 2007 & 2011. Apart from that they have reached in Semi Final in 2003 and Quarter Final in 2015 ICC World Cup Championship. .
They have played 83 matches, among them won 38, lost 39, 1 tied and there were no results in 5 matches.
Sri Lanka has a dependable batting line up with Dimuth Karunaratne, Pathum Nisanka, Maheesh Tisane, Kusal Perera and wicket keeper batsman Kusal Mendis.
Sri Lanka’s bowling strength will be Dunith Welalage, Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanaka, Matheesa Pathirana and Kasun Rajith.
Overall a decent team on the papers, but skipper’s bad form will be matter of concern. Hope he will back in his form and will start playing as per his ability.
