New Zealand Permanent Resident visa will be online, in next year
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) will move the application processes for permanent residence visas, second permanent residence visas onwards and change residence visa travel conditions to Online Immigration by the end of January 2024.
By the end of January 2024, applicants will be able to submit the following applications electronically using Immigration Online (instead of using a paper application):
- Permanent Residence Visa
- Entry Visa second or subsequent permanent residence
- Changing the travel conditions of a permanent visa
Currently, these applications are submitted using paper forms, which limits the applicant’s ability to follow up their application progress line by line.
The move to Online Immigration means applicants:
- Can check the status of their application online without having to call the INZ Contact Center
- No longer need to submit physical documents, such as a passport, which are required for paper applications Eligibility for a Permanent Residence Visa
- Individuals are only eligible for a permanent residence visa when they have held a permanent residence visa for at least at least 2 years.
- If the customer is outside New Zealand when their residence visa is granted, the 2 year period begins when they arrive in New Zealand on their residence visa.
- Applying within the 2 year period may result in the application being refused, meaning the customer will have to reapply and pay an additional application fee.
