The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the period for free updates of Aadhaar details through the myAadhaar portal, following the positive response of general public.
A recent memorandum of UIDAI, dated December 11, 2023, states that “based on positive feedback from the people, we have decided to extend the facility by 3 months i.e. from 15th December, 2023 to March 14th March, 2024.
Accordingly, the facility of updating documents will continue to be free through the myAadhaar portal at https: //myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in till 14th March, 2024.
This extension adds an additional three months to the service, currently available from December 15, 2023 to March 14, 2024.
However, it’s important to note that while the updates are online remains free but a fee of Rs 25 will be charged for updates in physical Aadhaar Centre.
UIDAI emphasizes the importance of updating Aadhaar information, especially for those who have not updated their details in the last decade.
The measure is aimed at minimizing Aadhaar-related fraud. As stated on the UIDAI website, “Please update your Aadhaar to ensure demographic information remains accurate.
Residents can update their name, address, date of birth, gender, phone number and email address online.
To update their photo, iris or other biometric data, individuals need to visit physical Aadhaar centres.
Follow these steps to update your details on the myAadhaar portal for free:
- Visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
- Use your Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID to log in.
- Select the ‘Name/Gender/Date of Birth & Address Update’ button.
- Click on the ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ button and then select the relevant option from Name, Gender, or Address from the list.
- Click ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’. After this, upload a scanned copy of required proofs.
- On the new webpage that will open, the ‘Service Request Number (SRN) will be displayed. Save it for future reference.
