Dream Girl 2 – a meaningful comedy
Dream Girl 2 is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language comedy film directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and produced by Ekta Kapoor under her banner Balaji Motion Pictures. The film is a sequel to the 2019 film Dream Girl, and stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Ananya Panday, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Annu Kapoor.
The film tells the story of Karam (Ayushmann Khurrana), a young man who lives in Mathura and falls in love with Pari (Ananya Panday). However, his life is turned upside down when he is forced to become a phone sex operator named Pooja.
Dream Girl 2 is a mixed bag. On the one hand, Ayushmann Khurrana is excellent as Karam/Pooja. He brings a lot of energy and charisma to the role, and he is able to make the character both funny and relatable. The supporting cast is also good, with Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Annu Kapoor all giving solid performances.
On the other hand, the film’s script is uneven. The first half of the film is quite funny, but the second half loses steam and becomes a bit too preachy. The film also makes some questionable choices, such as its portrayal of transgender people.
- The film’s portrayal of transgender people is one of its biggest flaws. The film makes a few jokes at the expense of transgender people, and it also seems to suggest that transgender people are not as capable as cisgender people. This is a harmful and inaccurate portrayal, and it is disappointing to see this in a film that is otherwise trying to be progressive.
- The film’s second half is also a bit of a letdown. The first half of the film is quite funny, but the second half becomes more serious and preachy. This shift in tone is jarring, and it makes the film feel less cohesive.
- Despite its flaws, Dream Girl 2 is still a decent film. Ayushmann Khurrana is excellent in the lead role, and the supporting cast is also good. If you are a fan of Khurrana’s work, then you will probably enjoy this film. However, if you are looking for a film that is both funny and thought-provoking, then you may be disappointed.
Overall, Dream Girl 2 is a decent film that is worth a watch for Ayushmann Khurrana’s performance. However, it is not as good as the original Dream Girl, and it is not without its flaws.
